“XOXO” is the first studio album by the South Korean-Chinese boyband EXO, released on June 3, 2013 by S.M. Entertainment. The album is a follow-up to the group’s debut EP, Mama from 2012.Like all of the group’s music, the album was released in two versions – a Korean “Kiss” edition and a Chinese “Hug” edition. It reached over 300,000 pre-orders before its official release. XOXO has two singles, “Wolf” co-written by Dsign Music and “Growl”. Both singles went on to chart in the top ten of the Gaon Singles Chart.
Within days after its release, the songs in XOXO topped almost every real-time chart from online music websites of South Korea and China. The two versions collectively peaked at number one on the Billboard World Album Chart a week after release. As of October 2013, the album has sold over 910,000 copies.
XOXO received positive reviews from music critics. Allkpop critics gave the album a 8.7 out of 10 points, with a community score of 8.6 out of 10. The album was praised to be one of 2013’s strongest K-pop comebacks. Leslie of Korean entertainment website, Seoulbeats, said that XOXO was “worth the wait” and gave the album a 4.5 out of 5 points.
